Youth Development Program
The Barracuda Tri Youth Development Program is all about learning the sport the right way. Athletes are taught the fundamentals of each discipline, swim, bike, and run, along with the skills needed to smoothly transition from one event to the next. Every practice is designed to be safe, educational, and fun, while building the skills and confidence required to race and handle challenges with resilience.
As athletes progress, they will be gradually introduced to age-appropriate training methods, race strategies, and basic performance skills that prepare them for competitive youth age-group races and Super Sprint–style events.
The team practices twice per week, and several local youth races will be highlighted throughout the season. We highly encourage athletes to participate in 2–3 races to apply their skills and gain valuable experience.
Athlete Requirements
To participate safely and successfully, athletes should be able to:
-
Swim 100–200 yards continuously using freestyle
-
Have a properly fitted bicycle and helmet in good working condition
-
Run 1–3 miles continuously
Barracuda Tri is the perfect entry point into the sport of triathlon; supportive, confidence-building, and designed to help young athletes feel prepared, relaxed, and ready to do their best.

Parent Testimonials
“Jeff’s knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to the kids and triathlon is unquestionable. He pushes them hard, whilst keeping it fun. As well as fitness, Georgie’s technical knowledge and co-ordination on the bike and through transition has improved immeasurably. Georgie’s favorite training sessions are Open Water swimming in the Sound at Rye in the summer.” – Bess and Georgie Spark
“My son (10) has been a member of the Barracuda kids team for the last two Spring/Summer seasons and he enjoys it so much! Coach Jeff runs an excellent club and both new and existing members enjoy his enthusiasm, the fun and discipline he brings to training them. Triathlon is such a great sport for kids because they get a balanced, all-over body workout. You also don’t need expensive equipment to start out with; just some goggles, running shoes, & a bike. You can always upgrade where necessary if your child has a real passion for it. We would highly recommend Barracuda to anyone wanting to try out a new exciting sport.” –Doreen H.
