YOUTH & JUNIOR

Why Triathlon for Kids?

Triathlon is a lifelong sport rooted in joy, challenge, and confidence. Kids already swim, bike, and run. Triathlon gives those everyday activities structure, purpose, friendships, and a pathway they can follow from childhood through college and beyond. Unlike many youth sports with a tight ceiling, triathlon offers unlimited opportunities for growth, balance, and lifelong fitness.

Our Mission

To develop confident, resilient, and technically sound young athletes who love the sport, support their teammates, and rise to their highest potential, on and off the race course.

We aim to create an environment where athletes learn how to train with purpose, compete with integrity, and build habits that will serve them for life: discipline, accountability, sportsmanship, and joy in the process.

Our Approach

At Barracuda Tri, we follow a Balanced + Progressive Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) philosophy. This means we coach athletes based on what they need now, not what adults need or what elite professionals do.

We develop each athlete in three foundational pillars:

1. Technique

Movement efficiency is everything. Athletes master skills in the water, on the bike, and in running mechanics long before intensity increases. Skill comes before speed.

2. Speed & Endurance

Age-appropriate conditioning that builds capacity without overtraining. The goal is repeatable speed, sustainable endurance, and aerobic development that supports long-term success.

3. Recovery & Durability

Kids grow rapidly, training must support, not stress, that process. We emphasize sleep, nutrition basics, strength fundamentals, and flexibility to maintain a healthy, injury-resistant athlete.

Key Principle: There is no such thing as a “Youth World Champion.” Development beats early specialization every time.
