The Fitness Center at South Shore is again extending a group discounted price on Vo2 max testing and RMR. Find your real training zones. I need a minimum of 10 people. The test day will be 30 March. The cost with 10 subjects will be $75 plus tax and a free hydrostatic body fat. This is the most accurate BF test. This will tell you lean mass and fat mass.

I'd like to do it. Same question as Heidi -- will late afternoon/evening slots be available?

I recommend building a schedule right here on this DB. If you can find the link from last year copy that Idea. Everytime someone wants a spot, copy and paste the existing schedule from the previous post, add your name and submit. The most recent schedule will be on top/bottom, depending how you view your posts.

Matt... you go first. Copy and paste in a reply. Make this schedule reflect the available spots. Then the members can copy paste and fill in.

This is a great deal for any of us but a MUST DO for those looking at their first IM.
You simply must know your proper training heart rate ranges to do long endurance.
Unless you are under 30 yrs old and not pump limited......
I'm out of town or would sign up again.

eThese are both worthwhile tests. I'm going to try to explain why. Matt please correct my mistakes.

RMR - Resting Metabolic Rate. This is given in calories. This is also what you may have heard of as basal metabolic rate. For years I was told it was about 8 calories per pound. I weigh 167 so 8x167 is 1336. But I had mine tested and I was actually closer to 1600 or about 9.5 calories per pound. This changes the amound of food you should eat when training. This is the calories you burn when you do NO training. The training burn goes on top of this value.

VO2max - is a measure of the maximum amount of O2 you can transfer to your muscles during strenuous activity. But the more important results of the VO2max test are the aerobic threshold (AT) and anaerobic (AeT) thresholds. These are the heartrates where you go from burning fat to burning glycogen (AT) and the heartrate where you go from burning glycogen to burning lactate (AeT).

You can only stay above your AeT for so long.

If you want to race, you can use this AeT number to determine how long to go hard without blowing up.

Like a tank of Nitrus Oxide in a race car. You can only turn the valve on so long then you are out and you will slow down. But if you stay below your AeT all race, you are giving up speed. Optimally, you want to use it all up by the end of the race.
